Barron Creek Farm
Our Journey
-
2017
Founder and Executive Director, Gen, always dreamed of growing fresh produce and sharing it with others. Often donating the over abundance of cherry tomatoes from her personal garden.
In 2017, Gen created Whitstable Farm to test the concept of small scale farming, with the goal of feeding people in the community that were most in need.
-
2020
As the farm team grew with each season, the farmers not only expanded infrastructure, and refined systems, but they were able to support a CSA delivery box program and donate fresh produce to local food banks and community groups, always focusing on organic and regenerative agricultural practices, and always keeping it local and fresh.
-

2023
With the goal of becoming a non profit farm, that solely focused on providing fresh, organic, local produce to partnering community groups, and food banks
Barron Creek Farm was created! Sharing the land with Whitstable Farm.
-

2024
Barron Creek Farm flourished, successfully growing and donating over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce. As our connection to the land deepened, we renewed our commitment to regenerative agriculture by focusing on practices that enhance soil health, support biodiversity, and close input loops. With our largest team to date, our community continued to build, along with our ability to provide access to agricultural education.
-

2025
After a long search for land, we transplanted ourselves in October to San Diego County. Thanks to the generosity of North Coast United Methodist Church, we're now managing a beautiful parcel of land, the former Kelly St Community Garden right in South Oceanside.
Our mission remains the same: building community through access to fresh produce and farm education.
Barron Creek Farm 1.0 to 2.0
In Los Altos Hills, Barron Creek Farm 1.0 grew on roughly 1 acre of farm space. In our final 2 seasons of production at the old farm, we donated over 14,000 pounds of fresh produce. Partnering with local food groups and community organizations, our produce fed individuals and families in San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara Counties.
Organizations we worked with include South Palo Alto Food Closet, Fresh Approach, Sunnyvale Community Services, West Valley Community Services and more.
As we establish ourselves in Oceanside as Barron Creek Farm 2.0, we continue to strive to address food insecurity and foster community, we are forging partnerships with other food justice organizations throughout San Diego County.
