Board Member – Volunteer Position
Location: North San Diego County, CA (Hybrid – occasional in-person meetings preferred)
About Us:
Barron Creek Farm is a small nonprofit farm where all the produce grown is donated to the community. We seek to foster community through sustainable farming, education and food accessibility. Formerly based in the Bay Area, we are excited to be relocating to Bonsall to grow our impact in a vibrant and diverse region. As we make this transition, we are seeking passionate, local individuals to join our Board of Directors and help guide our next chapter.
Our Values:
We utilize regenerative farming practices to help mitigate climate change, improve soil health, restore biodiversity, enhance ecosystems and contribute to human health. We strive to provide education surrounding regenerative agriculture, food justice, and community health. We believe access to adequate nutrition and tasty food are fundamental to human health and happiness. We work directly with food banks and pantries to distribute our food through the most direct and accessible channels.
Board Member Responsibilities
As a member of our Board of Directors, you will:
Provide strategic oversight, fiscal control, and governance for the organization, upholding all duties imposed on them collectively or individually by law, by the articles of incorporation, or by the bylaws of the organization.
Hire, support, and evaluate the Executive Director to ensure effective leadership and alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
Participate in quarterly board meetings (virtual and/or in-person), preparing in advance and engaging actively in discussions and decision-making.
Serve on at least one committee or project team (e.g., fundraising, events, education).
Act as an ambassador for Barron Creek Farm in the Bonsall and north San Diego communities.
Assist with donor cultivation, community partnerships, and fundraising efforts.
Support Barron Creek Farm’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse community both within the organization and in the broader region we serve.
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
A passion for sustainable agriculture, food justice, environmental stewardship, or community wellness.
Local connections in north San Diego County and an interest in supporting a community-focused farm.
Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:
Fundraising and development
Marketing or public relations
Nonprofit governance
Agriculture or food systems
Education or youth programming
Finance or law
A willingness to contribute time, expertise, and resources to advance the mission.
Commitment
Term: 2 years (renewable)
Time: ~3–5 hours per month on average, including meetings and committee work
Location: Hybrid; board meetings are primarily virtual, but local members are encouraged to attend occasional in-person gatherings or site visits
